What is Plant Spirit Medicine?

The question of what plant spirit medicine is came up in the Costa Rica Retreat group, which conducts ceremonies with a psychedelic plant (legal in Costa Rica) but also incorporates the energies of non psychedelic Master Plants, such as Bobinsana, Rose or the mystical Noya Rao, a tree that may exist and is very rare, but has a story behind it that it rose into the spirit realm and is now a wise guide to learn from and channel in healing.

I shared that plant spirit medicine is likely common to many traditional cultures and involves intuition, tradition, as well as pharmacological properties of plants. In societies that have sustained their connection to nature and the earth, there are teachings handed down about the healing energies available from plants and sometimes from animals. There is a sense of reciprocity in working with such plant spirits, a way that human consciousness can be of service in amplifying the recognition and purpose of these nature energies.

Shamans and healers often direct conscious awareness to plant-based properties by intuitively–or through visions–connecting to specific plants and learning from them and about them, as well as imparting such plant energies to their clients–this is often imagined as “planting” the plant in oneself as a healer and/or in a client to help or heal. “Plant baths” taken in the form of plant infused water poured over oneself also help communicate the healing energy, and tea made from Master plants is also consumed three times daily during a formal “dieta” period.
